Photosynthetic Acclimation and Growth Responses to Elevated CO2 Associate with Leaf Nitrogen and Phosphorus Concentrations in Mulberry (Morus multicaulis Perr.)

چکیده
Mulberry (Morus spp.) is a multipurpose tree that worldwide planted because of its economic importance. This study was to investigate the likely consequences anticipated future elevated CO2 (eCO2) on growth, physiology and nutrient uptake nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) potassium (K) in two most widely cultivated mulberry multicaulis Perr.) varieties, QiangSang-1 NongSang-14, southwest China. A pot experiment conducted environmentally auto-controlled growth chambers under ambient (ACO2, 410/460 ppm, daytime/nighttime) eCO2 (710/760 ppm). significantly increased plant height, stem diameter, leaf numbers biomass production, decreased chlorophyll concentrations, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance transpiration rate these varieties. Under N P, root N, P K concentrations both varieties decreased, while total were enhanced, an NongSang-4, but not QiangSang-1. Nutrient dilution main factors driving reduction whereas changes demand had substantial impacts inhibition. Our results can provide effective management strategies for sustainable production global atmosphere rising scenarios.

trees, age 25--30 years, were subjected to two soil-nitrogensupply regimes and to elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations by the branch-in-bag method from April 15 to September 15 for two or three years. Gas exchange in detached shoots was measured in a diffuse radiation field. Seven parameters associated with photosynthetic performance and two describing stomatal conductance were determined to...
متن کاملPredicting Ecosystem Responses to Elevated CO2 Concentrations
O ne of the many changes occurring in the biosphere due . to human activities is the increase in the carbon dioxide concentration of the atmosphere. This change is due both to the burning of fossil fuels, which is ejecting approximately 5-6 gT of carbon into the atmosphere yearly, and to deforestation, which may account for another 1~2 gT (Moore and Bolin 1986/87, Detwiler and Hall 1988). The p...
متن کاملThe Latex Protein MLX56 from Mulberry (Morus multicaulis) Protects Plants against Insect Pests and Pathogens
Biotic stresses are major constraints limiting the leaf quality and productivity of mulberry. MLX56 is a unique chitin-binding protein isolated from Shin-Ichinose (Morus alba) latex that displays toxicity against lepidopteran caterpillars. In this study, the full-length cDNA encoding MLX56 was isolated from Husang 32 (M. multicaulis) and designated HMLX56. Amino acid sequence analysis and prote...
